Glossy Box May 2012: The Anniversary Box

Sorry for the delay on this post – better late than never!!

Glossy Box have been going for a year now, so to celebrate, they thought they’d put together ‘the anniversary box’ full with party accessories for party mood. I have been a subscriber for quite some time now and, as per my last review, a lot is landing on this box as if I wasn’t happy with it, I was going to cancel my subscription due to late deliveries and repeated products that I just wasn’t interested in.

Firstly, the delivery was completely fine this time. I was invoiced and then a couple of days later, it landed on my doorstep. Very happy with this so far.

I opened up the pale pink box to some funky make up themed tissue enclosing my products of the month and our little card, describing what we had in our box. I was expecting a lot, as I have seen that their ambassadors have been sent personalised books for their blogging activities, so I was hoping to get the same treatment but with the quality of our products in our boxes. We subscribe to the monthly boxes too, GB…

So what did I get?

1. Noble Isle Summer Rising Bath and Shower Gel

Excuse my chipped nails…!
What GB says about it: An immaculate fragrance evoking the beginnings of summer. Noble Isle is a new British bath and body brand inspired by the natural and cultural riches of the British Isles.

What Franno says about it: It is a generous sample of shower gel at 75ml and it looks a very scary orange-y colour, but I might just think it’s scary because I’m into creamy shower gels at the moment. I really love the fragrance and I think this will be a sample I’ll definitely use when I’m travelling. GB are doing okay so far.

2. Lolita Lempicka L’Eau en Blanc and Eau de Parfum

What GB says about it: Discover Lolita Lempicka’s feminine world where Parisian chic meets fantasy fairy tale to create the perfect fragrance.

What Franno says about it: My word, I hate perfume samples. But giving it a go is what these beauty boxes are about, so I’m happy to sniff these on your behalf. L’Eau en Blanc is a very fresh smell and a bit sickly for my taste, as it’s a bit sweeter than the fragrances I usually wear (which are sweet fragrances already – CK One Shock! and Lacoste Touch Of Pink!). I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy this one, because it’s not really for me, but it smells alright, I guess. The L’Eau de Parfum reminds me a lot of Angel, which is a perfume my Mum wears. It’s sweet, but has some ‘bitter’ undertones to it (that’s not the word I was looking for, but that’s the best I can describe it…). It’s again, not really for me, but there we go, we tried it anyway.

3. Neal’s Yard Remedies Rehydrating Rose Daily Moisture

20120608-115920.jpgWhat GB says about it: Hydrating rose extract and damask rose oil soften, smooth and help restore skin’s natural radiance.

What Franno says about it: I do need some hydrating moisturiser, so I was relieved when this arrived in my box. I don’t really like the smell of rose, but I find that this isn’t crazily overpowering, so I can get away with it. This sample will probably last me all summer if I need it to 🙂

4. Collection Lasting Colour Gel Eyeliner20120608-120035.jpg

What GB says about it: Creating longed for perfect liner with lasting lustre is easier than ever to achieve with Collection lasting colour gel eyeliners.

What Franno says about it: This is the only brand that I recognise in Glossy Box for quite some time (other than Clarins or Dermatologica, which was ages ago!). I don’t use gel eyeliner, but I’m really ready to give it a go, now that I’ve got the opportunity to try before I buy. The hugely massive downside to this product is the colour; I received mine in gold, which is a yellow looking shimmery colour and I never wear yellow because it washes me out. I wish they’d sent me a classic colour, like a black, brown or navy blue to try out first.

5. Eldora False Eyelashes

What GB says about it: Eldora is about beautiful, quality and value-priced lashes for any occasion.

What Franno says about it: I’m actually really chuffed with this product this month. I’m really happy that they sent us something practical and with a ‘party’ theme for their first anniversary. I don’t really wear eyelashes, because I think they’re a bit overpriced and I have trouble applying them (and my patience), but again, this is something that I’m willing to give a go. I’m going to try and wear them this weekend for a burlesque party I’m attending!

There was also a compact Glossy Box mirror and a Glossy Box anniversary balloon (which Ozzy has since eaten…). Was I happy with this box? I am actually moderately satisfied but I’m not overwhelmed with the amazingness. I think that Glossy Box did a better job this month than in previous months, so I’m holding off the unsubscribe button for another month. I will probably get more use out of this box than with other boxes; all the products that I haven’t used are kept in my ‘spares’ drawer in case I run out of a particular product and can use a Glossy Box product in its place. The drawer is nearly full, so I suppose we’ll see what next month brings…

What did you get in your Glossy Box this month?
